We would firstly like to welcome you on this new and exciting journey as you are transformed from candidate to professional.
So you have gained some work experience and you now need to get the training and experience process started. We understand that getting started with the ECSA training process is often the most stressful, confusing and overwhelming part of the entire training process. Many candidates fall into the trap of self doubt and uncertainty which is normal as things are always very difficult when starting out.
The first mild stone to complete is to register as a Candidate with ECSA. This is a simple process where you just need to download the application forms, attach your qualification and submit your application to council.
Once you have completed this process, you can now begin with the creation of the training and experience plan. We understand that all candidates are at different stages of their training and the number of years of work experience will influence the type of training plan you need to create.
If you have 1-3 years working experience, your training and experience plan is to find the opportunities that allows you to demonstrate ECSA competency standards. As you complete each relevant project, you must log that project in the form of a report and then seek the next opportunity that is aligned with ECSA requirements.
If you have 3-9 years working experience, your training and experience plan is to review all the relevant projects that you have completed and select the ones that allows you to demonstrate that you have complied with ECSA competency standards. You must then log all work experience from the date of graduation to the date of application. Your goal is to set specific deadline dates so you can log all work in the fastest possible time.
ECSA do state that you can apply for registration as a professional once you have gained a minimum of 3 years worth of working experience. It is important to note that work experience is the factor that will determine if you are ready to apply for Professional registration and NOT time. So please be aware that the project that you choose to log must be relevant and in alignment with ECSA requirements.
We understand that the entire registration process can be confusing and overwhelming. To create some commonality and to help all Candidates get to a common point in their training, we created an E-book that breaks down the entire registration process into 9 steps.
The aim of creating this E-book was to provide a guide for all candidates so they can identify where they are in their training and move onto the next step that gets them closer to Professional Registration.
After working with many different candidates in various parts of the industry, we noticed that many candidates have similar questions regarding the ECSA training and experience process. So to answer these common questions, we have also included a Frequently Asked Question section at the end of the E-Book that addresses issues such as the type of training experience that one needs to be exposed to as well as the topic of mentorship.
