We would firstly like to welcome you on this new and exciting journey towards Professional Registration.
So you have 10 or more years work experience and you now need to get the training and experience process started. We understand this process can be challenging as it is hard to recall each project you worked on from the date of graduation. We also understand that the documentation showing your calculations and findings on a specific project may also not be available.
We are sure you are already registered as a candidate but if you are not, the first mild stone to complete is to register as a Candidate with ECSA. This is a simple process where you just need to download the application form, attached your qualification and submit your application to council.
Once you have completed this process, you can now begin with the creation of the training and experience plan. We know that 10 or more years is a far way to think back to, so what we recommend is for you to make a list of the most technical projects you have ever worked on from your date of graduation. Write down the scope of work of each project, your responsibilities and problems you addressed.
You now need to log all work in a training and experience outline and a training and experience report. Each report is different and will depend on the amount of time you have been working within the industry. The rule is that all work from date of graduation to 3 years prior to registration must be logged in a training and experience outline. The last 3 years of experience prior to registration must be logged in a training and experience report.
So here is an example to explain how this works:
We have a candidate who name is John.
John graduated in 2005 and he wishes to apply for registration in 2018.
John will log his experience in the following reports according to his target date of registration.
So for the period between 2005 to 2014, John will log all his experience in the form of a training and experience outline.
For the period between 2015 to 2018, John will log all his experience in the form of a training and experience report. So the last 3 years before the date of professional registration will be logged in a training and experience report.
So this is the major difference in the registration process for candidates who have 10 or more years worth of working experience. We understand that the entire registration process can be confusing and overwhelming so we have created an E-book that breaks the entire registration process into 9 steps.
The aim of creating this E-book is to provide a guide for all candidates so they can identify where they are in their training and to move onto the next step that gets them closer to Professional Registration.
After working with many different candidates in various parts of the industry, we noticed that many candidates have similar questions regarding the ECSA training and experience process. So to answer these common questions, we have also included a Frequently Asked Question section at the end of the E-Book that addresses issues such as the type of training experience that one needs to be exposed to as well as the topic of mentorship.
