OUR TRAINING SCHEDULE
Coaching for candidate engineers
The Candidate Engineer coaching package is a unique package that will provide guidance to candidate engineers so that they will be in a position to apply for registration as a professional engineer with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA). This package is not designed to replace the mentor or supervisor within the firm but to provide guidance and to ensure that all work conducted within the training period meets the requirements with ECSA.
A coach will perform a different role to a mentor/supervisor as the coach will not supervise the day to day activities of the candidate engineer. They will review the work that is currently being conducted and assess if the activity complies with standards as set out by ECSA. Should activities not comply with the requirements as set out by ECSA, the coach will provide guidance and work with the mentor to ensure that the candidate expands on the existing activity so that it reaches a level of competency.
The coach will work with the candidate to construct the training program and will monitor progress to ensure that activities are completed in the proposed time period. The coach will provide feedback on all activities and reports should the assigned mentor not be available to assist the candidate. This additional support will allow the mentors to focus on their daily tasks to help grow your business.
From personal experience, we understand that maintaining a positive mindset for a candidate engineer can be difficult with the high demand from their day to day activities and the additional requirements that will follow after they have completed work. Therefore, we have incorporated the same life coaching benefits as offered in our HVAC training package.
All our coaches will work with the firm’s mentors and are ECSA registered. Therefore, coaches can be assigned the title of a “referee” and are able to verify the second referee report when the candidate applies for registration as a professional engineer. The coach will provide the most support during the application phase of the training period as they will review all training and experience reports, ensure all application forms are complete, review CPD reports and ensure that the design report is compliant with the competency standards and written in the correct format.
Once the application has been processed and the candidate passes the initial grading phase, the coach will prepare the candidate for the professional review. They will role play with the candidate and ensure that each of the various requirements as set out by ECSA are conveyed to the reviewers.
The coaching period will be conducted through most of the candidates training process and will ultimately prepare the candidate for registration for a professional engineering licence. During the training process, the candidate engineer will be trained in a manner whereby decision making and thinking will be encouraged. This will ensure that the candidates are well prepared and know what is required upon graduation as a professional engineer.
Benefits from coaching will include the following:
